Born in Savannah, Georgia on December 6, 1954, to parents Samuel Harris Wilson and Doris Ann Lanier (Maiden name) divorced in 1956. In 1963, my father married Pamela Jean Alderson in Christensted, St. Croix. They have been happily married for 45 years and live in St. Simons Georgia.I spent time growing up on the east coast of FL, The Bahamas, and St. Croix U.S.V.I.
Left home about 1970 and moved to the Ft. Lauderdale/Miami area. Worked on charter yachts and did a little bartending and a lot of traveling around the country.
In 1975, I joined the Army to be a combat field medic. Did my basic at Ft. Jackson SC, went to Texas and medical school, and EMT school. Then I was sent overseas, was stationed in Korea, then back home to the US in Colorado, and honorably discharged in 1978.
Moved to Boone North Carolina in 1978 and hung out around my parent's for a while doing construction. Got restless in 1981 and joined a rock & roll band called "Brice Street" Out of Greensboro NC. (I was the stage manager/road manager, and got to play cowbell on a few tunes) My claim to fame!
Moving back down to the Virgin Islands in 1983, did a stint as a cable guy, climbing poles and installing CCTV equipment. Bored with that I got a job running the Villa Olga Hotel in St. Thomas until 1985. I then moved back to St. Croix and stayed there running boats, charter/sailing/diving as the co-manager of Caribbean Sea Adventures until 1986. Then from 1986 to 1989, I worked as part owner and Charter Captain for Sunshine Charters in Christiansted, St. Croix.
I lost everything in Hurricane Hugo in September 17, 1989, boat, house, everything! I came back to the states four days later, went down to Islamorada FL. for six months as a private yacht Captain at Ocean Reef Yacht Club. I also worked as a Dredge Engineer and Airboat Operator for Turkey Point Nuclear Power Station in Homestead, Florida and part time tour boat operator for “Biscayne Underwater Tours” until about July 1990
Moved to St. Simons Ga. in July 1990 and stayed there for 12 years doing charter fishing, banquet work, bartending and construction.
From January 2000 to 2002, I got into towing boat's for a "TowBoat U.S." company in Brunswick, Georgia working under "Savannah Marine Towing and Recovery, Inc." The work involved being on call 24/7 six days a week for towing operations rendering any assistance requested.
I then transferred down to Sarasota/Bradenton, Florida in January 2002 where I worked for another Towboat U.S. owner working the Manatee River, Tampa Bay and Ana Maria Island area.
Moved down to Naples/Marco in May 2003 I worked again as the owner-operator of my boat for “TowBoat” US under “Southern Marine Towing and Salvage, Inc.” for the Naples and Marco Island area. In September 2007 I sold my part in the ownership and have been self-employed working at selling my collection of Nautical Antiques and Charter captaining. I will post some pictures of towing related stuff when I get a chance.
My favorite times in life so far was when I was sailing down in the Virgin's with lots of good people and great fun. I would like to eventually retire down in the Islands somewhere owning a little B&B, or small Resort. Maybe a little bar-restaurant catering to tourists and still getting to go fishing and diving. Thanks for looking and have a wonderful life.
